Firmware 3.10

November 16, 2009

Sony announced details on the new firmware 3.10 over the PlayStation Blog today. A couple of the new additions are a new grid view for photos, as well as choose the colour of your profile and outline on the friends list, something that was not well received. I still say they should use the designs some people post on the PlayStation forums. I can’t find the link, but there was a particular one that looks amazing.
Another addition is integration with Facebook. You will now be able to have trophies, PlayStation Store purchases and more automatically posted on your Wall. Developers will also be able to choose certain events in games that can be posted to Facebook, but that will not be available from the start.

Borderlands?

October 19, 2009

Developer Gearbox’s latest title, Borderlands, is being released tomorrow. I just read the IGN review of the game, and it’s looking very good. I was very unimpressed with their last game, Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway, despite the good reviews from websites, and my friends.

What is appealing to me for Borderlands is the unique FPS/RPG combination, which I didn’t like in Fallout 3, but it seems to be more shooter than RPG in Borderlands. Another thing is the art style. I’ve never seen a FPS done in the cell-shaded style, and it looks really, really cool.

Anyways, I’ll probably rent the game tomorrow or Wednesday to see if it really is that good. Leave a comment if you’re getting Borderlands as well.

UPDATE

I was just reading around, and the first DLC, titled “The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned”, is already under development and set to be released at the end of 2009. This, to go with the discussions I had with a friend today about the number of guns in the game. Neither of us knew, but now that I’ve read, there just so happens to be a total of 3,166,880 different gun combonations (believed to be now closer to 17,750,000) in the game, plus some more if you pre-ordered! The DLC is set to be released for $9.99 (PS3, PC) and 800MSP (360).
